This status report is based on the Malaysian fish landing statistics for the 1991-1995 period. The status of the pelagic fishery in Sabah are given in this report. An attempt is also made to assess the mackerel, round scad and tuna fisheries using the Beverton and Holt Yield per Recruit Model. From available statistics, it seems that the annual landings for tunas and mackerels are on a declining trend, and on the contrary for round scads and mixed pelagic group. These trends maybe attributed to the saturation of fishing effort, where the fishery is concentrated mainly in inshore waters. However, limited sampling coverage can also be a major contributing factor.en
