    Abstract
The technical consultation on available aquaculture technology in the Philippines was held from 8 to 11 February 1979, at Tigbauan. The objectives of the consultation were: (1) to update currently available technology in given disciplines of a given commodity; (2) to determine the production potential of available technology; (3) to crystallize technology gaps in selected aquaculture systems; (4) to determine suitable linkage mechanisms for the transfer of appropriate aquaculture technology. The consultation limited its area of coverage to four major commodities: milkfish (Chanos chanos ), prawn, tilapia and molluscs. The problem areas discussed were: broodstock development and reproduction, larval rearing, nutrition, culture, pests and diseases, post-harvest handling and processing, aquaculture engineering and socio-economics. Briefs were presented as initial discussion points for the different work groups, and are included with the report.
