Abstract
Prior to formulation of the project document for "Integrated Coastal Resources Management Project in Shihanoukville (ICRM-SV)", the preliminary socio-economic survey was conducted on 14-17 March 2005 in Commune Teuk Thla, Sihanoukville, Cambodia, with the joint team of DOF Cambodia, Fisheries Office Sihanoukville and SEAFDDEC/TD.
Preliminary Socio-economic Survey or Rapid Rural Appraisal is a repertoire of rapid approaches to collecting information and data and identifying problems. It is a vital step to take upon formulating a rural development project for any implementing agency, especially relevant for coastal fisheries development encompassing the total community development aspect that looks at problems outside of the fisheries sector, in such areas as cottage or small scale industry development and house holding. It is not only conducive to provide basic data and information which will constitute the backbone of the project streamline but also as a milestone for the operational status in the project area and, thereby, the project can use it as a means of measuring the degree of achievement with the period of project operation. Additionally, and fishing and fish handing technologies survey was simultaneously carried out as a complementary survey, the content of which will be reported separately.
