Abstract
One of the key highlights in the second quarter of 2025 was the Fifty-seventh Meeting of the SEAFDEC Council, where the progress and achievements of SEAFDEC activities in 2024 as well as the proposed program of activities to be undertaken in 2025 were reported. While noting the progress in the development and implementation of several regional fisheries policies and frameworks, the Council approved the Report on stock and risk assessment of two seerfish species and Regional Guidelines on Good Manufacturing and Handling Practices (GMP & GHP) for Ready-to Eat Raw Fish and Fishery Products and supported these documents for submission to the 33rd ASWGFi.
During the quarter, SEAFDEC also continued to organize regional events, including consultation on small-scale fisheries to reduce costs and environmental impacts and improve fish handling and waste minimization across the region; consultation on RFVR which resulted in an agreement to include vessels less than 24 meters in length in the RFVR Database; and consultation on fisheries information system which discussed the current status and challenges in fisheries data collection.
