The Fifty-second Meeting of the Council of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) was convened through unconventional procedures due to the unusual situation brought about by the onslaught of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that impeded the gathering of the SEAFDEC Council of Directors. The Meeting was therefore arranged to comprise the Teleconferrence Session, which was held on 19 May 2020 at 09.00-11.00 hrs (UTC+7) in order to obtain the Council’s views and directives for Agenda items that require urgent consideration, and the Ad Referendum Session, which was subsequently convened to obtain the Council’s views and directives for the remaining Agenda items.
The Teleconference Session was participated by the SEAFDEC Council Directors for Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam together with their respective delegations, as well as the SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General and the senior officials from the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Departments. The List of Participants of the Teleconference Session appears as Annex 1. The views and directives of the Council Director for Myanmar, who was unable to join the Teleconference Session due to technical constraints, were provided to the SEAFDEC Secretariat prior to the Teleconference Session for inclusion in the Report of the Meeting.
Subsequent to the discussions during the Teleconference Session, the views and directives of all SEAFDEC Council of Directors on the remaining Agenda items were sought ad referendum through the Reply Form provided by the SEAFDEC Secretariat.
