The Special Meeting on Improvement of Tuna Information and Data Collection in Southeast Asia was convened in Thailand’s Songkhla Province from 7 to 9 September 2011 to gather ideas on how to deal with tuna statistics: gaps and constraints in collecting tuna information/statistics can be identified, future data collection and information gathering can be improved, and regional plan for supporting tuna statistics can be developed. Representatives from Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, and SEAFDEC’s MFRDMD, Thailand’s Fish Marketing Organization, the Thai Union Group served as resource persons to the Meeting. And members of the Regional Fisheries Policy Network, based at the SEAFDEC Secretariat also attended the Meeting. Representatives of the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center in Songkhla attended as observers. The list of participants appears as Annex 1.
