Abstract
The main objective of the compilation and publication of Catch-Effort Statistics for the South China Sea Area is to provide available statistical information to scientists in the region. The responsibility to publish these statistics was transferred to the Marine Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (MFRDMD) of SEAFDEC in 1993. An outline is given of the current status of the catch-effort statistics data for 1992 and 1993 under the following headings: Annual catch-effort -- catch and fishing effort by type of fishing gear, catch and fishing effort by type of fishing gear and size of management; Monthly catch-effort data -- catch and fishing effort by type of fishing gear and by month, catch and fishing effort by type of fishing gear, by month and by size of management; Specific data on catch-effort -- Hong Kong, Indonesia. Activities to be undertaken in order to improve the collection and compilation of catch and effort statistics are listed.
