Abstract
Presented in the paper are the training and extension programs of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. The most common and important issues facing the marine capture fishery, such as overfishing, competition between traditional and commercial fisheries, the use of the coastal zone, the increased fishing effort due to advanced technologies, the use of destructive fishing gears, and the impact of pollution and the destruction of mangrove areas were presented. Moreover, the extension programs to support the development of the industry were also presented.
