Fisheries statistics: A necessary tool for sustainable fisheries?

Abstract

This article is broadly based on the Guidelines for the Collection of Inland and Coastal Fishery Statistics, and focuses mainly on inland and coastal fisheries. Issues and uses of fishery statistics, fisheries statistics for management and the design of a statistical system are discussed.
